How to cook a prime rib

Premium Oven Roasted Standing Rib Roast - Prime Rib:


  • Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place roast, fat side up, in shallow roasting pan. Insert ovenproof meat thermometer in roast. Do not add water or cover. 

  • Roast accord to chart (see below). Remove when meat thermometer registers 135 F for medium rare, 150 F for medium. Let roast stand for 15 minutes. Temperature will continue to rise 10 F to reach desired doneness and roast will be ready to carve. 

  • *Upon arriving home, immediately place beed in the refrigerator or meat compartment. Roasts may be refrigerated a maximum of 5 days. 

  • *Immediately freeze any meat you don't plan to use within a few days. Roasts may be frozen a maximum of 8 - 12 months.

4-6 lbs (2 Ribs) Medium Rare: 1.75 to 2.25 hours Medium: 2.25 to 2.75 hours


6-8 lbs (2-4 Ribs)   Medium Rare: 2.25 to 2.5 hours Medium: 2.75 to 3 hours


8-10 lbs (4-5 Ribs) Medium Rare: 2.5 to 3 hours Medium: 3 to 3.5 hours


10-14 lbs (5-7 Ribs) Medium Rare: 3 to 3.5 hours Medium: 3.5 to 3.75 hours
